Community Organizations

Cokato is fortunate to have many local organizations supporting community life and activity. Many of these are made possible by volunteers. Volunteering is a great way to support and get to know others in your community. Contact any one of these organizations to find out more about how to get involved.

Cokato Chamber of Commerce

The Cokato Area Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary association of business people working together to improve the economic & civic vitality in our community. Cokato Chamber activities and annual events include the Cokato Corn Carnival, BooFest, the D-C Business Expo, the City-wide Garage Sale, and the Movie in the Park. The Chamber meets the second Tuesday of the month, unless otherwise noted, at Cokato City Hall. For Chamber Membership details, please see our Cokato Area Chamber of Commerce membership page.

Cokato-Dassel Rotary

Cokato-Dassel Rotary is a local service organization that aims to better the community. Their motto is "Service Above Self." Cokato-Dassel Rotary meets Thursdays at 12pm at Cokato City Hall.

Cokato Historical Society

The Cokato Historical Society supports the operations of the Cokato Museum and Akerlund Studio by raising funds to maintain and feature exhibits, programs, tours, and special events. Their mission is to collect, preserve, and interpret the history of Cokato and the surrounding area.

Dassel-Cokato Early Childhood Advisory Council

The Dassel-Cokato Early Childhood Advisory Council is a fantastic group of volunteers that provide support and feedback to the Dassel-Cokato Early Childhood Programs regarding early learning and parenting opportunities such as Play and Learn Preschool, Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE), and special events.

Cokato Food Shelf

The Cokato Food Shelf strives to make Cokato hunger free. They are supported by donations from local churches, community members and organizations.

Cokato Ambulance

The Cokato Ambulance Service is a 24/7 basic life support service owned and operated by the City of Cokato. Currently, it's a 14 member volunteer EMT staff, serving the City of Cokato, Stockholm Township, Cokato Township, and the south half of French Lake Township. Cokato has many capabilities including intravenous circulatory access, airway management devices, automated CPR device, and much more. Cokato Ambulance is also able to request Advanced Life Support Services and air medical transport from other health organizations. Our community is fortunate to have a dedicated service that provides life saving care when minutes count.

Cokato American Legion Auxiliary Unit 209

The Cokato American Legion Auxiliary Unit 209 meets at Cokato City Hall the third Monday of the month at 7pm. Membership is open to anyone whose spouse or other family member has served, or is currently serving in the military, and who is a member of the American Legion. New members are always welcome. Cokato-Dassel Lions

Where there’s a need, there’s a Lion. The Cokato-Dassel Lions serve the DC communities and surrounding area. The Lions Club's mission is to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs.

Cokato Finnish American Historical Society

The purpose of the Cokato Finnish American Historical Society is to preserve the history of the Finnish pioneers and others who settled in this area of Wright County.  The society is a self supporting non profit organization.  The society holds many educational and social events during the year.

The Dassel Cokato Bounce Back project promotes health through happiness. Our goal is to create a community that abounds with opportunities for social connection and activities that cultivate mental and physical wellness; where every member finds purpose, builds resilience, expresses gratitude and shares kindness. 

 

We are a team of professionals, parents, and passionate people who believe in the power of positivity. We offer community events, classes, book reads, presentations, and motivational speakers that give people opportunities, tools, education and inspiration to live healthier, happier lives.

A to Z Mental Health Scholarship Foundation

A To Z Mental Health Scholarship Foundation tries to bring awareness to our community. The mental health stigma is hard to break through, and sometime makes it hard to talk about or even to ask for help.  A person’s mental health affects us from childhood through adulthood in the way we think, feel, and act.  Our goal is promote good mental health through connections with people, being active and involved with the community around you, and also to connect you with the resources when help is needed.

Cokato Fire & Rescue

The Cokato Fire and Rescue department responds to various types of calls, including car crashes, fires, gas leaks, and many other emergencies. They serve the areas of Stockholm Township, Cokato Township, the City of Cokato, and half of French Lake Township. Along with the Cokato Ambulance squad, they are based out of the recently-built station located on Hwy 12.

Cokato American Legion Unit 209

The Cokato chapter of the American Legion was formed in late September, 1919, not long after the Legion’s National Convention in Minneapolis. In fulfillment of its Mission, the American Legion adheres to the following purposes:

 

  • To support and advocate for veterans, active military, and their families

  • To support the initiatives and programs of the American Legion

  • To foster patriotism and responsible citizenship

  • To award scholarships and promote quality education and literacy

  • To provide educational and leadership opportunities that uphold the ideals of freedom and democracy and encourage good citizenship and patriotism in government

  • To increase our capacity to deliver our Mission by providing meaningful volunteer opportunities within our communities

  • To empower our membership to achieve personal fulfilment through service not self

 

New members are encouraged. Meetings are the 3rd Monday of every month at 7pm at Cokato City Hall - East Entrance.

Dassel-Cokato Sustainable Living

The mission of Dassel-Cokato Sustainable Living is to foster learning, connection, and stewardship with regards to our natural world and empower people with the skills and knowledge to be able to live more sustainably. The organization offers many different presentations and events throughout the year that support this mission. No membership is required, and events are open to everyone. DCSL also provides resources and some videos of past presentations on its website.
