Butch Amundsen 2020 Citizen of the Year

At the December 14th City Council Meeting the Cokato Chamber of Commerce acknowledged Forrest “Butch” Amundsen as the Outstanding Citizen of the Year!

Since opening The Norseman restaurant in 1971, Amundsen has devoted many hours of his time to supporting and promoting the Cokato community. Amundsen played an integral role in establishing the D-C youth hockey program, and installing hockey boards at the Moores Park rink. He has volunteered numerous hours at the Corn Carnival and helped with the lighting for community theater for many years. He also was active with the Cokato Chamber, Cokato Jaycees, After Prom Party Planners, and many other community organizations and programs. He is also known for his elaborate Christmas and Halloween decorations at his home. For the past few years, Amundsen has taken the time to plant the flower pots that are placed around the city. Amundsen served as Mayor of Cokato from 1981-1990 and as a City Council Member from 2001-2020.

All of these acts of service and more make Forrest “Butch” Amundsen this year’s Outstanding Citizen!

Citizens will soon be able to view the acknowledgment on City Council Video on Demand page on the City of Cokato’s website. Amundsen was unfortunately not able to be at the meeting, but was later presented the award in person.
